About Shruti

Hailing from a family of musicians, Shruti began her journey in Carnatic vocal music at the age of five. She received her initial training from her mother, Smt. Sita, and grandmother, Smt. Eyunni Srinivasamma — a revered vainika vidushi. Over the years, she has been fortunate to learn under the tutelage of several eminent gurus including Late Sri Madirimangalam Ramachandran garu, Late Sri Neti Srirama Sarma garu, and Dr. Vyzarsu Balasubrahmanyam garu.

An engineer by qualification, Shruti worked as an IT developer for over seven years before choosing to follow her heart — dedicating herself fully to her true passion: classical music. As a performing artist, she has graced many prestigious stages, including the Sahasra Deepalankarana Seva at Tirumala and the Brahmotsavams in Tirupati.

She is the founder of Shruti School of Vocal Excellence, where she has been teaching Carnatic music to students of all ages and levels for over 15 years. Through regular classes and workshops, she strives to share and sustain the rich cultural heritage of Indian classical music. To Shruti, music is more than an art form — it is a journey of devotion and self-discovery. Through her teaching, she aspires to nurture not just skilled vocalists, but true rasikas — those who feel and live the music deeply.

“Teaching is not just about lessons, but about lighting a spark — that joy when a raga comes alive in a student’s voice.”

Shruti also serves as a Radio Jockey at Radio Surabhi, Dallas, where she hosts a unique show dedicated to Indian classical music. Her weekly segment, Classical Tuesday – Shruti Layalu, airs every Tuesday from 11 AM to 1 PM CST. The show features enriching conversations about classical music traditions and includes interviews with esteemed artists and gurus from across the globe.
